St. Lawrence Church

The St. Lawrence Church is an architectural gem and it enriches the center of Wattens  by its beauty. Excavations, which were discovered during renovation work, as well as the name of the Church suggest that its founding dates back to Roman times. St. Lawrence Church is first mentioned in 1318. The present church, after several fires, was rebuilt in the classical style and inaugurated in 1820. Since 1983, it is commemorated by a bronze plaque to Father Jacob Gapp, as a witness of his faith, when he was executed in 1943, on the 13th August  in Berlin. Father Gapp  was 1996. canonized in Rome and is the patron of the lonely, the persecuted and the people in hopeless situations.
